Middle School Retreat

Buddy left at 6:30 AM this morning for a two day middle school retreat - my heart cracked a little.  It was so tough for him and I to say goodbye! But he'll be fine and I'll be fine and Friday will be a sweet reunion!

Day 4

Leaving Ten Sleeps we made our way to Cody, Wyoming. What a great town.  We actually took our time and ate lunch, went to the grocery, sports store and walked around a little.
We ate lunch in a old hang out of Wild Bill.  Irma's Grill and Hotel.  This place is pretty rad.
We were able to get a new tent too- which was wonderful.

We cruised on through to Yellowstone by afternoon.
Old Faithful

First buffalo! Babe was beside himself.
Headed out of the park for camp.  Hello Montana.

New Tent.
This camp ground was pretty cool, but had one million Mosquitos. Ugh.

We love camping!
Thanks to bug spray.

Day 3

Day 3 started off a little chilly but so refreshing.  After breakfast we packed up everything and got back on the road.

First stop was the Crazy Horse Monument.  Another favorite of the boys with a great history and story.  It will be awesome for the boys to come here years from now and see the progress.

We had a 30 mile detour on a gravel road due to a wreck on the main road coming out of Hill City, so we only got to stop outside Devil's Tower. Did not take pictures with my phone but with the big camera.  I was really bummed the boys didn't get to run and play and see all the praire dogs here but we were an hour behind schedule from the gravel road and need to get on down the road.

Wyoming.
Rest area lunch.
Oh how we love Wyoming.  So gorgeous.  We made camp at Leigh Creek campground in Ten Sleeps, Wyoming.
Ten Sleeps got it's name because it's 10 nights from Casper and 10 nights from Cody traveling by wagon.  Love those fun facts.
Leigh Creek at the bottom of this amazing canyon.
View from the tent.

Most amazing campsite ever.  I could have stayed many nights here.
Unfortunately we had to move on and that the zipper busted on the tent.

Day 2

Corn Palace, Mitchell, South Dakota

Badlands

On the way through South Dakota there is a couple hundred signs for Wall Drug Store in Wall, South Dakota. We tallied our sightings and counted 72 signs from Sioux Falls.  Of course the boys wanted to go.  I neglected to take photos because there was about 10,000 people and keeping track of the Babe was hard enough! At least they can say they have been to Wall Drug!

We later arrived at Sheridan Lake campground.
We ate a quick supper and then off for Mount Rushmore.

The cool thing about going there at night is a Lighting Ceremony.  It was really cool.  At 9, a Park Ranger talks about why Mount Ruahmore exsists and why the four presidents, then there's a 20 minute movie about the 4 presidents. Then they slowing shine gaint spot lights on the sculpture. And while its illuminated they honor all service men and women past and present that are there that night.  Pretty special tribute.

The bigger boys LOVED Mount Rushmore! It is pretty special to see this image for your own eyes.

Soccer & Swim

Buddy has been attending a soccer camp this week and LG swim lessons.  Fun times.
LG loves the diving board. There is no hesitation, he takes off running and jumps.  So awesome.
He is doing really well, his teacher is very proud of him and so am I. He is no longer holding his nose with his hand.  And he can float really well and is learning to use his legs.   Go LG Go.

Later at soccer camp, the boys and I hang out until the Man arrives.
We got sno cones and enjoyed the not-so-hot evening.

Happy Summer!

HOT

It's 99 degrees today so we got a kid-friendly sprinkler at the store.
The sprinkler lasted about 20 minutes before they broke it.  Tomorrow I'll just spray them with the hose!!!
